What is nafsi?
In Islam the word Nafsi means soul:
Nafsi (n class, plural nafsi) soul (the spirit or essence of a person that is often believed to live on after the person's death) self.
And In Arabic:
"nafsi" (نَفْسِي) is an adjective that means "myself" or "personal." It is derived from the word "nafs" (نَفْس), which means "soul" or "self." When used as an adjective, "nafsi" is typically used to describe something that is personal to oneself or something that is done by oneself.
Definition of Nafs:
Nafs (نَفْس) is an Arabic word occurring in the Quran, literally meaning "self", and has been translated as "psyche", "ego" or "soul"
The purpose of the NAFSI project is to look deeper into ourselves and our ego. Our ego consists of various factors. We can look at it as just a form of ‘‘His ego is at an all time high’’ or as a matter of factors to keep the ego at check with worldy consumption. Such as:
- What we fill our vessles with i.e food
- Over consumption in the materialist world ie clothing
- Obsession with richness ie Jewellery, gold etc
- Jealousy & Envy. Jealousy can be broken down in various streams.
- Asthetics. An obsession to look perfect as opposed to fuelling and staying fit for obedience and purpose.
- Sorcery- A major shirk and deadly action in Islam
- Dressed but undressed
- Ghiba. Backbiting
